Ana Paganini
Ana Paganini (Lisbon, 1995) began taking photographs at the age of 8, (together) with her father, who was (also) a documentary photographer. From 2014 to 2018, she studied Documentary Film at the London College of Communication at the University of the Arts London, where she specialised in cinematography.
In 2019, she began documenting religious festivities and processions that her own father had photographed in Trás-os-Montes between 1970 and 2000. Her documentary projects explore themes of memory, particularly personal and collective memory, identity and cultural traditions. Ana Paganini divides her time between film still photography, authorial and documentary projects and event photography. She also manages her father's photographic archive.
Ana Paganini's work also spans photojournalism and fashion, regularly appearing in publications such as ZEIT, British Journal of Photography, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Le Monde Diplomatique, Marie Claire France, The Nature Journal and Público, as well as for brands such as Hermès, Fenwick and Soho House, among others.
She regularly collaborates with institutions such as the Aga Khan Foundation, the Casa de Mateus Foundation, Brotéria, the Ajuda Palace, the Nadir Afonso Foundation, MAAT, the Casas de Fronteira e Alorna Foundation, the Goethe-Institut and the Eça de Queiroz Foundation.
In 2023, she was selected for the Taylor Wessing Photo Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London, where she won the People's Choice Award. In 2024, she was nominated for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award for reportage photography. She exhibits regularly, in solo and group shows, and has presented her work in England, Portugal and Germany.
